NASA has released an updated version of its free NASA App for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. The NASA App 2.0 has a newly designed user interface and several new features. The new UI will enable users to explore and experience the NASA content on their

mobile devices in an improved way. NASA App 2.0 has been re-built by the team at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. The updated version of app is now said to have a fast and intuitive UI & according to NASA, approximately 4.7 million people have downloaded the app so far.

Some of the additional features of the app include weather forecasts in spacecraft sighting opportunities section, information & links to all the NASA visitor centers, maps, a section on NASA’s programs, and more. Users can also print, save, and access their favorite items & bookmark the images. You need to have an iOS 5.0 or later device to install the app.

Jerry Colen, NASA’s App Project Manager at Ames said, “This is our first major redesign of the NASA App for iPhone since our initial release in 2009. We are really excited about this release and think users are going to love the new interface and features.

All the apps, which have been launched by NASA for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Android consist of a range of NASA content such as images, live streaming of NASA Television, videos on-demand, agency’s Third Rock online radio station, featured content, mission & launch information, and stories & breaking news. The content can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, or via email.
