    Auto-Enrollment

Auto-enrollment is the process by which CMS automatically places dual eligible and other Low Income Subsidy individuals into Part D coverage so they are not left without a drug plan. Beneficiaries are typically enrolled first into a temporary transition plan and then into a qualifying benchmark plan.

    Definition

Auto-enrollment is the process by which CMS automatically places dual eligible and other Low Income Subsidy individuals into Part D coverage so they are not left without a drug plan. Beneficiaries are typically enrolled first into a temporary transition plan and then into a qualifying benchmark plan.

    Why it matters

It protects the most vulnerable beneficiaries from gaps in drug coverage, though the assigned plan may not be the best fit, so a coverage review is often worthwhile.
