Deemed status means CMS accepts a home health agency's accreditation by a CMS-approved accrediting organization as evidence that the agency meets the Medicare Conditions of Participation. Agencies with deemed status are surveyed by their accreditor (ACHC, CHAP, or The Joint Commission) instead of the state survey agency for routine certification purposes.
